The story of Egypt
Egypt's story stretches back further than almost any other nation's: around 3100 BCE, King Narmer united Upper and Lower Egypt into a single kingdom, beginning three millennia of pharaonic rule that produced the pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor and Karnak, and a writing system, hieroglyphics, that still fascinates scholars today. Successive dynasties built monuments meant to outlast time itself, while the Nile's annual floods sustained one of the ancient world's wealthiest civilizations.
