Preah Vihear Temple joined the World Heritage List

Preah Vihear is an 11th–12th century Khmer temple built primarily under kings Suryavarman I and II, perched atop a 525-metre cliff in the Dângrêk Mountains on the Cambodia–Thailand border. Originally a Hindu temple, it was later adapted for Buddhist use. A 1962 International Court of Justice ruling affirmed Cambodia’s ownership of the site, and UNESCO inscribed it as a World Heritage Site on 7 July 2008 — a listing that reignited border tensions with Thailand despite the earlier court decision.
