Who is Xander Bogaerts?

Xander Jan Bogaerts is a professional baseball shortstop and third baseman born in Oranjestad, Aruba, on 1 October 1992. Signed by the Boston Red Sox as an amateur international free agent in 2009, he rose through the club's minor-league system and made his major-league debut in 2013, helping Boston win the World Series that same year as a rookie and again in 2018, when he started at shortstop throughout the postseason. Over more than a decade with the Red Sox, Bogaerts became one of the franchise's most consistent hitters, earning multiple All-Star selections and a Silver Slugger Award before signing with the San Diego Padres in free agency. He is the fifth Aruban-born player to reach Major League Baseball and is fluent in English, Dutch, Spanish and Papiamento, reflecting his island upbringing. In recognition of his achievements, including a gold medal with the Dutch national team at the 2011 Baseball World Cup, he was inducted into the Order of Orange-Nassau by the Governor of Aruba. His twin brother, Jair Bogaerts, also signed with the Red Sox organization, and Xander remains one of the most prominent athletes Aruba has ever produced.
