Who is Kaltouma Nadjina?
Kaltouma Nadjina was born on 16 November 1976 in Bol, a town on the shores of Lake Chad, and became Chad's most decorated track and field athlete. She began competing in organized sport in 1993 at the National Sport Week in Moundou and rose quickly through regional and continental competition. Specializing in the 200 and 400 metres, she has held Chadian national records across the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m. Her breakthrough at the 1994 World Junior Championships in Lisbon opened the way to a long international career representing Chad at multiple Olympic Games, world championships, and African championships, including a gold medal in the 200 metres at the 2001 Jeux de la Francophonie in Ottawa and gold in both the 200m and 400m at the 2002 African Championships in Tunis. Competing for a country with very limited sporting infrastructure and funding, she became one of the most recognizable Chadian athletes on the world stage across the late 1990s and 2000s, representing her country in international competition for over a decade and inspiring a generation of young Chadian women in athletics.
