Basketball (NBA) | Full History
The NBA Finals has crowned a champion every year since the league's first season in 1947, with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers combining for more than a third of all titles.
Covers every completed NBA Finals from the league's first season (1947, Philadelphia Warriors) through the 2026 Finals (New York Knicks); franchise title counts follow standard NBA-recognized lineage (e.g. the Lakers include their Minneapolis-era titles, the 76ers include their Syracuse Nationals-era title, and the Thunder include their Seattle SuperSonics-era title) rather than treating a relocated or renamed franchise as a new team. A few other franchises (Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks) are tied at 2 titles just outside this top-10 leaderboard and are not shown due to the 10-team cap. ABA champions and pre-1947 basketball leagues are out of scope.
